Two Delaware freshmen had big days en route to earning MVP honors at the Philadelphia area NUC Combine last weekend.

Middletown's Chris Godwin (6-2, 195 lbs) continued to prove why he maybe the next big receiver out of Delaware winning overall MVP for the 9th grade as he ran a 4.6 40 yard dash on grass while also putting up 16 reps of 135 on the bench.

"I was just trying to be the best receiver out here, and I wanted to show that there is talent in Delaware, people just have to come and look"

Godwin was very physical in beating press coverage, while running smooth routes and showing sure hands when the ball was in the air.

Godwin still has a few other events he may attend this summer before Middletown starts preseason practice.

"I think I will go to the Penn State camp and maybe the NUC in Delaware on June 10th."

Godwin, along with classmate Darius Wade (who also performed well at the combine) look to lead Middletown back to the state title game.

"We're losing some lineman, so we are trying to rebuild there and come back solid and get back to where we were last season"

Wesley Jones (6- 1, 250 lbs) of A.I. DuPont used great footwork to excel on both sides of the ball, winning the offensive line MVP award.

"I wasn't worried about the actual combine, just worried about the 1 on1's. I was just trying to get some experience. I wanted to see the people in my grad I will be competing against in the future."

With the way Jones performed, expect a breakout season as he takes his talent to the big stage.

"I dressed for varsity last season but played mostly JV so I am hoping to get some playing time on varsity."

Although it is very early in his high school career, Jones doesn't care which side of the ball he lines up on, as long as he plays.

"I have no preference on O or D, I think I'm athletic enough to play both."

This is the beginning of the summer events for Jones, who has a few things scheduled for the off season.

"Maybe attend Boston College camp (brother C.J. plays up there), The Ultimate East 100 and not sure about anything else."
