Newark fell to 4-10 yesterday. Is there another team even close to them in regards to not living up to expectations so far this year?

no disrespect to SC, they have some big wins this season but i definately thought they would of been alot better in W-L column...just sharing imo

How about last year's finalists both hovering below .500 and not sure what expectations were but Dickinson going from 13-5 to 2-10 so far.

Appo and Caravel both 5-7.

State Championship Game from last year...both disappointng this year.

Appo has Dover, Hodgson, Middletown, Concord all left to play, not to mention Newark and Glascow.

Caravel has Sussex Tech, Dover & CR in state. Out of state; Riverdale Baptist (30-5 according to max preps) and Delbarton (18-6 from school website).

Don't see either gettting to .500 this season.

Newark seems to be better than their record lets on. Maybe i'm just an optimist. Very tough schedule, was competitiv against VERY good teams, but just can't get the win. Look at the losses to what i would call top ten teams:
Sallies L 3-8
Sus Tech L 1-8 (tech scored 4 in 6th inning)
Charter L 3-4
Concord L 3-5
St Marks L 1-12

Other Losses to pretty decent teams:
St E L 2-5
AI L 6-7
M-Town L 4-7
Glasgow L 3-7
Red Lion L 1-12

Other than RL and ST Marks, they were pretty respectable scores. Don't get me wrong, you can't lose ALL your close games and be a good squad. I just don't think they are as bad as a 4-10 record looks.

They have a very favorable schedule from here out, Chr,AI,APPO,Penn that could get them 3 or 4 wins and finish more respectable.

Appo and Caravel, both seemed to have had the same issues all year. Young pitching and both missed big hits at key times. Taking a look at both teams schedules and OUCH!!! Both schedules are brutal.

No Independent conference or Diamond State Conference teams on either schedule. Only flight B conference games were Appo St Georges and Caravel Dickinson. Which was the only easy game on Caravel schedule and who knew they would fall so fast?

Young teams and tough schedule = potential for disappointing year

I agree with JVCoach Dickinson has to be the most disapionting. Tournament team to a very disapionting year and not much to look forward to in the future.

Not that this is totally shocking, but how about Seaford possibly not winning a game this season? The Jays are 0-11 right now with St. Thomas More, Dover, Tech, St. E's, Glasgow, St. Andrew's and St. Mark's left. The only one Seaford might be a favorite in is St. Andrew's. And there can't be much help on the way, as the school doesn't have a JV team.

Think about it, all those titles and former players drafted, all that tradition, and the team might go 0-18...

Appo, caravel, and Newark gotta be the three big ones. Appo has lost some pitching from last year, but they still brought back a lot of talent so I am surprised at there record. Caravel is also young and lacks pitching.

How about Sanford? I'm coming for you Elizabeth!

Appo and caravel both trying to keep seasons alive today against top teams. Dover at appo, caravel at tech. Tall order. Appo plays hodgson sunday at frawley.

0-18 still possible. Lost by 10 to ST Tommy More yesterday

Agree that Dickinson is one of the most disappointing. Went from a tournament team, to barely winning any games. I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but the following years don't look very promising for them either.

Still think it's Newark. They look like they've packed it in. Mercy-ruled, 10-0 by A.I. today to drop to 4-11. I just don't get it. There's enough talent there that they should be doing better than this. Shame.

St Marks threw nine gloves on the field today, expecting to beat Seaford. After four errors, and Seaford putting up 3 in the top of the first, a sound-asleep St Marks team, woke up. At one point, down 0-3, the face of St Mark's coach Smith was a shade of red I've never seen before. Seaford runs the table and ends up 0-18.

Did any other team end up winless?

Penn 0-18

William Penn. Once a proud program with many players throughout the years playing in the pros did not win a game this season. Most of their players head to St. George's and Hodgson. Very sad.

William Penn and Seaford, a combined seven state titles between them and countless players selected into the MLB draft over the years both failed to win a game this year. This would have been unheard of just a few years ago, let alone from the late 70s through the 90s. These schools, in all honesty, seem to have traveled very similar paths during the last four decades.

WOW! I knew WP was having a rough year but was not aware they failed to win a game too. An absolute shame.

Penn is a fine example of how lopsided the playing field has become in high school baseball. It is likely that a public school will never again win the state championship (not including "cherry-picking" Charter schools.)

Strong public school programs are suffering because of the backdoor deals being made to recruit at Charter, and Vo Techs....not to mention private and parochial. Years ago, it used to be just Sallies and St Marks that raped talent...now it is widespread

The drain of talent continues.

You cannot blame parent for trying to get their child into a fine school for academics, but let's be real here....people aren't running to St Marks for the academics.

The next PUBLIC school to win the state championship will be a downstate team that has they feeder pattern intact and has not been raped by local non=public schools
