We won the girls state championship my senior year and I was player of the year the same year. I also played in the Blue Gold Game. I attended the game this past Saturday and I felt sooo bad for the downstate gold team. I couldn't believe the coaches allowed Davis to be that selfish on the basketball court. I could not believe the number of shots she took without making hardly any passes to her teammates and that most of the time she was playing the point. I saw her play up here before a couple times and I thought the she was shooting that much because her team wasn't very good and it was really just her and the center. That's not really an excuse not to involve your teammates but I just thought that was the reason. But to be in an All Star game and to do that is ashame. I feel horrible for her teammates because they didn't deserve that. Really the coaches should have pulled her to the side and told her or substituted for her. Nobody else played like that and that may have been the reason why the upstate girls won. They played as a team. Davis scored the most points on the Gold team and was the only one interviewed in yesterday's paper. She is a great talent and would have probably been leading scorer anyway but in a team setting without having to take that many shots and make so little passes and look so selfish. She just has alot of maturing to do. I expected better chemistry because the upstate girls play together all summer so I just figured that the downstate girls play travel ball or summer leagues together too. In all my years of coming to the game and playing in the game I have never seen anything quite like that. It was sooo bad. I actually wanted to get up and leave. Perillo was player of the year because she is a good talent but a great teammate and that may have been the difference between the two. I hope I never see that type of selfishness in an All Star game again.
