Now that we are getting back into our regular routines with the holidays coming to an end, let's see how our boys teams faired over the holiday season. DE PREPS second ranked Sanford participated at the annual NHSCA Festival. The Warriors went 2-0, defeating Dunbar 80-64, as Deon Jones scored 27 and Trevor Cooney dropped in 26. In their second game, Sanford easily defeated Oxon Hill 72-50, once again led by Cooney with 17 and Jones with 16. Other teams participating in the tournament was Dover who went 2-1, Laurel also went 2-1, Woodbridge went 2-0 and Indian River went 0-3.

The annual Quaker Classic had 11 teams from Delaware competing, as Moyer Academy won the "C" bracket defeating Lake Forest 61-55, and then McKean in the final 56-48. In the "B" bracket St. E's rolled over Wilmington Christian 78-56 and then defeated Seaford 64-54 in the finals. The "A" bracket featured DE PREPS top ranked Delcastle Cougars who defeated Pencader Charter 85-61 behind 17 points from Terrance Bobb-Jones and 16 from Exzavier Cooper. The final was also and easy game for the Cougars as they beat Smyrna 67-45 as Cooper put in 19, Brandon Bobb-Jones recorded 16, and Terrance Bobb Jones added 15. Delcastle is now 4-0 and is still the team to beat right now in our opinion.
Caravel Academy hosted a Christmas Showcase case that featured AI Dupont, Tatnall, the Moyer Academy, Kennett High and Abington Friends. AI Dupont went 2-0 defeating Tatnall 62-56 and Caravel Academy 70-45. Levi Blaylock led the way for the Tigers, scoring 24 and 21 points in the two games. The Maurice Moyer Academy went 2-1, defeating Caravel 70-54, Kennett 76-60 and losing to Abington Friends 70-51. Tatnall went 1-1, defeating Kennett 63-33, and losing to AI Dupont.
Also during the break, Hodgson and Newark were able to play their final game from the Kappa Klassic that was snowed out. It turned to be probably the most exciting game the holidays had to offer, as Hodgson prevailed on a buzzer beater 3 pointer from sophmore Andre Horne. It was the fourth time in the last two minutes that the lead had changed hands. Hodgson went on a 13-5 run earlier in the quarter to go up 56-50 after being down 45-43 to start the final quarter. Newark took the lead back at 61-60 when Dominick Perry who led Newark with 16 points hit two free throws with only 28 seconds left in the game. The Yellowjckets hit one more foul shot with 6.4 seconds left, setting up Horne's game winner. Horne finished with a game high 24 points and Shakeel Jeffcoat finished with 14, hitting four three pointers.
It was a good holiday, as Santa provided some big wins for a few teams, and our staff is looking forward to some great games to come our way in 2010. Talk about your favorite players and prep teams here, and take a look at our current top twenty.
