At long last, Delaware has culminated a layoff of uncertainty with a 2021 high school basketball season for public schools and beyond. The first official week has now kicked off, with various teams overcoming a dead period in which the idea of a season once seemed farfetched.

Sanford returned to action and looked every bit of the contender it is projected to be, overcoming early bouts of rust to score a 54-43 win over Tattnall.

With his imposing presence inside, No.1 ranked 6-foot-9, 245-pound Class of 2021 behemoth Nnanna Njoku scored a game best 15 points. He regained the bouncy explosiveness that led him to sign with nearby Villanova, registering his presence as a strong and powerful interior specimen who defenders had difficulty containing.

While Sanford appeared out of sync from the significant time off, they came together on the defensive end and played team basketball on the other side of the floor, whizzing the ball around and committing to that extra pass.

Senior sharpshooter Brandon Dwyer scored nine points to go with three assists and four rebounds. The team's veteran experience and wealth of savvy and battle tested guys was a difference maker for longtime head coach Stan Waterman.

Class of 2023 guard Marc Handy generated early buzz, erupting in a 28-point scoring barrage that included four 3-point field goals.

Showcasing athletic explosiveness and tremendous elevation on his pull up jumper, Handy scored it in every way imaginable and manufactured points. He was able to break out into the open floor and finish above the rim.

Class of 2022 product Justin Molen of Salesianum turned in several eye widening and timely buckets during a tight 57-54 win over Caravel, including an acrobatic and thunderous baseline dunk during the second half.

A 6-foot-6 guard/forward with a college ready build and a skill set, Molen has added high rising athleticism and a prodigious vertical to his game. He creates a formidable tandem with a high scoring veteran guard in 6-foot-3 Rasheen Caulk. A multi-sport athlete who is also a free safety in football, Caulk brings a level of defensive integrity and toughness which bolsters Salesianum.
