LIU BASEBALL DROPS RUBBER
GAME, 9-6 AT MONMOUTH
April 10, 2005 -- Junior Tim Doherty
(St. Mark's HS) rapped three hits for Long Island, which was dealt a 9-6
Northeast Conference loss at Monmouth in West Long Branch, NJ.
The Blackbirds (5-11, 2-4 NEC) scored once
in the top of the second inning for a 1-1 contest. Junior Matt Martino
(Staten Island, NY) drew a leadoff walk, reached third on a pair of
singles & scored on a sacrifice fly from freshman Bryan Burke
(Lindenhurst, NY).
The Hawks (10-15, 4-4) proceeded to score
four runs in the third & three in the fourth for an 8-1 game. Marc
Weres had the big hit in that stretch with a two-run triple in the third
inning.
LIU began a rally with three seven-inning
runs. Doherty scored on a wild pitch, soph Marcus Wynn (Plainfield,
NJ) had an RBI double & junior Nathan Olson (Poland, Maine)
contributed a run-scoring groundout for an 8-4 contest.
Wynn in the eighth reached on an error by
Weres at third base to score Doherty & soph Santos Collazo
(Staten Island, NY) as LIU moved to 8-6, but could get no closer.
LIU BASEBALL DEFEATED BY
TOWSON, 14-2
April 6, 2005 – Long Island
University suffered a 14-2 setback at Towson University in college
baseball action yesterday afternoon.
Soph Marcus Wynn (Plainfield,
NJ) belted a lead-off homer down the right field line to give LIU a 1-0
edge. However, the lead was short lived as the Tigers plated a run on a
wild pitch. Mark Chiccini singled to center to bring home Casper Wells as
Towson took a 2-1 advantage into the second.
Jason Maxey hit his first of
three homers to lead off the second stanza, & extend the Tigers lead
to 3-1. Towson opened a commanding lead over the next two frames, plating
three in the third and again in the fourth.
In the sixth, the Blackbirds
took advantage of two errors, as junior Trey Bell (Sussex Central
HS) scored closing the margin to 9-2 but the Tigers put the game out of
reach in the bottom of the inning.
SANDERS MAKES HISTORY WITH VILLA JULIE'S
FIRST NO HITTER
April 11, 2005 -- Stevenson, MD -- Villa
Julie College hosted North Eastern Athletic Conference opponent SUNY
Purchase yesterday afternoon & won both games of their double header
10-2 & 9-0.
Game 2:
VJC sophomore Gary Sanders (Caesar Rodney HS) recorded the
college's first no hitter since the program began nine years ago in a 9-0
win over SUNY Purchase in game two. Sanders raised his record to
5-2 after walking one, striking out 13 & not allowing a hit or run in
the victory. He dominated throughout the game as all of his pitches were
working on the visiting Panthers.
DeFransisco knocked in a RBI with a run
scored while going 2-3 & Pinto as well as freshman Tim Buck
(Chesapeake) contributed to the win going 3-3.
Sophomore Rob Altieri (Greensburg, Pa), sophomore designated hitter Dan
Santobianco (Brandywine HS) & freshman center fielder Kellen
Kulbacki (Hershey, Pa) each hit two-run homers. Altieri connected for his
first of the season. Santobianco hit his second of the year, going
deep in back-to-back games. Kulbacki hit his fourth of the season.
DUKES PULL AWAY FOR 11-6
BASEBALL WIN AGAINST LONGWOOD
April 5, 2005 -- Harrisonburg,
Va -- Junior third baseman baseman Nate Schill (Audubon, N.J.) drove in
three runs & sophomore catcher Dan Santobianco (Brandywine HS)
homered to lead James Madison to an 11-6 victory against visiting Longwood
in non-conference college baseball Tuesday afternoon at Long Field/Mauck
Stadium.
The Dukes upped their record to 9-17 overall while the Lancers slid to
10-19.
JMU sophomore shortstop Davis
Stoneburner (Richmond, Va) went 2-for-4 with one RBI & has hit safely
in 13 of the last 14 games. Cowgill added a pair of hits, including his
eighth double, & has reached base in 17 straight games. Santobianco's
solo homer, the first of his of two hits, started the afternoon's
scoring in the second inning, & it was his first home run of the year.
Freshman center fielder Kellen Kulbacki (Hershey, Pa) tacked on a pair of
singles to the winning cause.
SETON HALL BASEBALL SPLITS PAIR AT
VILLANOVA
April 9, 2005 -- Plymouth Meeting, PA –
Senior Tim Pahuta went 3-for-5 with a triple & three RBI to lead a
16-hit attack for Seton Hall in an 11-3 victory over Villanova in game two
of a BIG EAST baseball doubleheader on Saturday at the Villanova Ballpark.
The Pirates (8-18, 2-7 BIG EAST) dropped game one by a score of 8-2 in
seven innings.
In game two, Seton Hall sent another
freshman to the mound in Dan McDonald, & he came through with a
complete game victory to improve to 3-2. He scattered four hits over nine
innings, giving up three runs (two earned) & striking out seven while
walking seven.
McDonald received plenty of offense as Seton Hall set season highs in runs
& hits with 11 & 16, respectively. Things did not start off so
surely for Seton Hall, as Villanova had a 1-0 lead through the first two
innings. Pahuta hit a two-out RBI double in the top of the third that
scored freshman catcher Matt Skopak who had led off with a single &
advanced on a sacrifice bunt & a fly ball.
Villanova scored in the eighth to make it
7-3, but SHU plated four more in the top of the ninth. Skopak knocked in
two runs with a single, freshman Tim Smith drove in a run with a
sacrifice fly, & Pahuta put the finishing touches on a 5-for-8 day
with an RBI single down the right-field line to finish the scoring.
WILMINGTON COLLEGE VS USP
April 4, 2005 -- New Castle,
DE -- Wilmington College rolled past USP in two baseball games on Monday
afternoon at Wilson Field.The Wildcats cruised to an 18-0 win in the
opening game behind the strong pitching of Bret Urban (William Penn
HS). Urban picked up his first win of the season, going seven
innings & giving up only one hit, while striking out thirteen.
Pete Henyan went 3-3 with
three runs & four RBI's for Wilmington. Steve Spiese (Newark
HS) & Rich Ware each added three hits. Spiese scored four runs
while Ware knocked in three. Matt Kucharski (St Elizabeth's HS)
& Joe Class chipped in with two hits & two RBI's apiece, while Garry
Wright (St. Mark's HS) went 1-3 with two runs scored & three
RBI's.
The nightcap saw the Wildcats
rally in the last two innings, putting six runs on the board & coming
away with the 6-2 victory. Joe Matterer (Newark HS) went six
innings, giving up only three hits & two runs, while striking out
eight.
Derek Pugh (Christiana
HS) went 2-2 for Wilmington, scoring a run & driving in three. Rich
Ware went 2-3 with 2 RBI's, while Joe Class went 2-2 with a run scored
& an RBI. Steve Spiese & Brian Fitzgerald (St.
Mark's HS) each added two hits, with Spiese scoring one run & Fitzgerald
crossing the plate twice.
With the wins, Wilmington
improved to 4-0 in the CACC & 8-10-1 overall on the season.
The top half of the lineup proved very effective for Wilmington, as the
1-5 hitters picked up 11 of the 'Cats 12 hits. Derek Pugh
(Christiana HS) went 2-4 with a run scored & 3 RBI's, & Joe Class
went 2-5 with a run scored & 2 RBI's. Bryan Fitzgerald was 3-3
with two runs scored, & Steve Spiese went 2-2 with two runs
scored. Pete Henyan chipped in with two hits & an RBI.
WILMINGTON COLLEGE VS COLLEGE OF NEW
JERSEY
March 31, 2005 -- New Castle, DE -- Wilmington College fell to the
visiting College of New Jersey 10-3 in non-conference baseball action
Thursday afternoon at Wilson Field.
Bill Cecconi (1-3, Howard HS) took the loss, giving up 8 runs (6
ER) & 7 hits over five & 1/3 innings. Offensively the Wildcats put
10 hits on TCNJ, including two hits apiece from Brian Fitzgerald (St.
Mark's HS), Pete Henyan, Derek Pugh (Christiana HS), & Matt
Gianni.
WILMINGTON COLLEGE VS
MONTCLAIR STATE
March 26, 2005 -- New Castle, DE -- Wilmington dropped a non-conference
game to Montclair State University, 10-6 on Saturday afternoon at Wilson
Field.
The Wildcats mounted a charge in the seventh scoring four runs to make it
9-6, but Montclair added one more in the ninth & the 'Cats couldn't
sustain the rally.
Bret Urban (William Penn HS) took the loss & fell to 0-3 on the
season. Offensively, Steve Spiese (Newark HS) paced the 'Cats,
going 2-3 with two RBI's & a double. Joe Class added two hits of his
own, including a double. Rich Ware, Pete Henyan, Matt Kucharski
(St. Elizabeth's HS) & Class all pitched with RBI's.
The Devils gave up four runs in the first inning to the Wildcats, who sent
eight men to the plate. Singles by Brian Fitzgerald (St. Mark's HS)
& Joe Class & a double by Derek Pugh (Christiana HS) along
with a pair of USP errors led to the four Wilmington runs.
Trailing, 4-0, the Devils cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the
third with a pair of runs but
Wilmington added solo runs in the fourth & fifth innings to go back up
by four, 6-2. The Wildcats scored their final two runs in the top of the
ninth inning, getting three consecutive two-out hits of reliever Frank
Antosh (Wilkes-Barre, PA) to make the score 8-2. USP's Corey Hider (Lake
Charles, LA) homered in the bottom of the ninth to make the final score
8-3.
Wilmington banged out 14 hits on the afternoon while the Devils, whose
bats have been dormant of late, had a season-high nine hits in 36 at-bats.
Pete Henyan got the win for the Wildcats, improving to 2-0. Henyan pitched
7 innings, giving up two runs & striking out 10.
WILMINGTON COLLEGE VS
PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY
March 17, 2005 -- New Castle, DE -- Wilmington College dropped a
non-conference baseball game to visiting Philadelphia University, 13-2 on
Thursday afternoon.
The Rams used a 7-run fourth inning to chase starter Mark DiMaio
(1-1, Glasgow HS). DiMaio gave up 17 hits & 11 runs in 3 &
2/3 innings. Offensively, Joe Class picked up three hits for the 'Cats.
Rich Ware added two singles, & Ron Berry (Polytech HS) had the
lone RBI for Wilmington.
Ron Berry (Polytech HS) & Derek Pugh (Christiana HS) each
chipped in with 2 hits & 2 RBI's. Rich Ware added 3 hits of his own,
while Steve Spiese (Newark HS) & Garry Wright (St.
Mark's HS) each recorded two hits on the game. Pete Henyan went 1-4 with a
runs scored & 2 RBI's for the Wildcats.
Kutztown battled back & was able salvage a split with a 3-2 victory in
the nightcap. Bob Kunz (0-1, Howard HS) took the loss, giving up 4
hits & 3 runs in four innings. Pete Henyan went 2-3 with two runs
scored for Wilmington, while Garry Wright (St. Mark's HS) added an
RBI for the 'Cats.
WILMINGTON COLLEGE VS WEST CHESTER
March 16, 2005 -- New Castle, DE -- The
Wildcats lost to West Chester University 13-3, as former head coach Matt
Brainard came back to Wilson Field for the first time as the skipper of
the Golden Rams.
West Chester used an eight run third inning to give the Rams a lead they
would never surrender, as they cruised to the ten run victory.
Joe Matterer (0-2, Newark HS)
suffered the loss for the 'Cats, giving up 11 hits & 10 runs (9 ER)
over four innings.
Offensively, Joe Class added two hits for Wilmington, going 2-4. Brian
Fitzgerald (St. Mark's HS), Matt Kucharski (St. Elizabeth's HS)
& Matt Gianni each chipped in with a hit & an RBI for the
Wildcats.
DEL STATE'S KEYES PITCHES HORNETS PAST
SPARTANS
April 10, 2005 -- Norfolk, VA -- William
Keyes tossed his first complete game to lead Delaware State to a 6-3 win
over Norfolk State in MEAC baseball Sunday to help the Hornets avoid being
swept in the three-game series.
Keyes allowed 12 hits, but only one for
extra bases. He struck out five & did not allow a walk to improve to
3-2 on the season. The Hornets (11-19; 6-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in
the first inning. The first run scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon
Gravely, and a single by Justin Wenger plated the other run.
Del State opened a 3-0 lead when Kevin Hill
reached on a three-base error & scored on a single by Gravely. After
Norfolk State scored a run in the bottom of the third, Jared Lineweaver
(Sussex Central HS) put the Hornets ahead 4-1 with a
run-scoring single in the fourth.
The Hornets added two runs in the sixth to
open up a 6-2 lead. Hill tripled in the first run, & the other crossed
the plate on a single by Wenger.
Norfolk State committed five errors in the
contest, while the Hornets were flawless in the field. Wenger and C.J.
Acker had two hits each for Delaware State.
DSU HORNETS DOUBLED UP BY LA SALLE
April 5, 2005 -- Philadelphia, PA -- Rich
Prall knocked in four runs to lead LaSalle to a 14-7 win over Delaware
State in college baseball Tuesday. La Salle improved to 9-14 while the
Hornets fell to 10-17. La Salle led 2-0 before Delaware State scored four
runs in the top of the second to take the lead. Justin Wenger scored the
Hornet's first run on a solo homer, while Norris Gordon had a two-run
triple in the inning.
After La Salle scored a run in the bottom
of the second to make it a 4-3 game, Wenger singled in a run & Matt
Folke (Glasgow HS) had a sacrifice fly in the top of the third to give
the Hornets a three-run lead. LaSalle scored three runs in the bottom of
the fourth inning to tie the game & regained the lead 7-6 on a
run-scoring triple by pinch hitter Dennis Burge with one out in the fifth.
The Explorers scored three runs in the seventh & two in the eighth to
close out the scoring. Brandon Gravely had three of Delaware State's 11
hits.
ERIC BUTKIEWICZ TIES UMBC BASEBALL'S
CAREER STRIKEOUTS MARK EN ROUTE TO THE RETRIEVERS' 5-3 WIN OVER STONY
BROOK
April 10, 2005 -- Baltimore, MD -- UMBC Baseball senior Eric Butkiewicz
(Plainville, Conn) tied UMBC's all-time mark for strikeouts after
sitting down five Stony Brook batters on Sunday afternoon in UMBC's 5-3
America East Conference win over the Seawolves. UMBC improves to 7-15 on
the season, 1-2 in the America East Conference while the setback puts the
Seawolves at 12-16, 2-1 AE.
Butkiewicz settled in after the first,
sitting down the Seawolves in order in the second & going the next
five innings keeping Stony Brook off the board. Butkiewicz received some
stellar help from his defense as well with the Seawolves threatening on
two occasions.
UMBC's offense started early as the
Retrievers tallied runs in the each of the first three innings to knock
out Stony Brook's starter Matt Restivo. In the second Joe Fowler
(St. Marks) led off the inning with a homerun over the left field fence,
the freshman's third of the year. UMBC tallied two more in the third
& one more run in the fifth.
Butkiewicz moves to 2-4 on the year going
7.0 innings allowing 10 hits, two runs , four walks and striking out five.
Butkiewicz ties Ben O'Connor with 201 career strikeouts for first
all-time in UMBC's career pitching chart.
UMBC host Opening Night at UMBC on Tuesday,
April 12 at 7 p.m. against Navy & "Youth Night" on Wednesday,
April 13 at 7 p.m. against Georgetown.
STONY BROOK TAKES FIRST TWO GAMES OF
WEEKEND SERIES WITH UMBC BASEBALL, 5-4 (10), 9-3
April 9, 2005 -- Baltimore, MD -- The Stony Brook Seawolves (12-15, 2-0
America East) won both games of Saturday afternoon's doubleheader with
host UMBC (6-15, 0-2 AE) in both schools America East Conference openers
at The Baseball Factory Field at UMBC. The Seawolves rallied for a 5-4 10
inning win in game one & scored eight runs in the final three innings
to win 9-3 in game two.
UMBC scored in the first, fourth &
fifth innings of the game. Two errors in the first allowed lead-off hitter
Brian Moran to score UMBC's first run of the game. Zack Clark
(Newark HS) led off the fourth with a single & was driven in with an
RBI single.
Game 2: UMBC tied the game 1-1 in
the fourth inning as a lead-off single by Laddbush, walk to Rinaldi &
a sacrifice bunt by Joe Fowler (St. Mark's HS) put runners at
second & third. Laddbush would score as Mark Lemon (St. Mark's
HS) reached on an error by the Seawolves second basemen. Stony Brook
responded as they scored eight runs in the final three innings.
Starter Brian Murtagh captured the win to move to 3-2 for Stony Brook.
Murtagh went 4.0 innings allowing two hits & two runs scored. The
Seawolves in game two scattered 15 hits through seven innings. Zach
Clark for UMBC took the loss, 0-3, allowing three earned runs &
seven hits in 4.0 innings.
UMBC - SCHEFFEL'S TWO
HOMERUNS STUNS MARYLAND AS UMBC BASEBALL TOPS TERPS 9-7 WEDNESDAY NIGHT
April 6, 2005 -- College Park, MD – UMBC (6-13) sophomore Mike Scheffel
(Westminster, Md) hit two homeruns including a two-run shot in the top of
the ninth inning to break a 7-7 tie as the Retrievers defeated the
University of Maryland (14-17), 9-7, in non-conference baseball action on
Wednesday night at Shipley Field. Scheffel finished 2-for-5 with two
homeruns, three RBI & two runs scored as the Retrievers defeated
Maryland for the first time since April 28, 1999.
UMBC scored first in the top
of the second as Alex Laddbush (Clarksburg, Md) led off the inning with a
double. Joe Fowler (St. Marks) plated Laddbush with a RBI single.
Brian Moran (Columbia, Md) recorded a two RBI single later in the inning
as UMBC went ahead 3-0.
Maryland scored six unanswered
runs over the next three innings & held a 7-4 lead going into the
sixth inning prior to the Retrievers scoring the final five runs of the
game.
In the sixth UMBC tallied two
runs as Scheffel cracked his first homerun of the game. Anthony Socarras'
(Miami, Fla) groundout brought Fowler to the plate for UMBC's
other run.
The Retrievers tied the game
7-7 in the seventh inning as Laddbush doubled to right center field to
plate Kyle Wildasin (Hanover, Pa). In the ninth Wildasin singled to lead
off the inning & two batters later Scheffel lifted a shot over the
left centerfield fence for the game-winning homerun.
The Terps out hit UMBC 13-12
but made three errors compared to UMBC's one.
YALE DEALS SHUTOUT, COMEBACK IN PENN
SWEEP
April 10, 2005 -- New Haven, Conn - Eric
Rasmussen's sacrifice fly to center scored Jake Doyle (Brandywine
HS) to cap a three-run seventh inning & give the Yale baseball team a
7-6 come-from-behind win against Penn in the second game of a doubleheader
at Yale Field.
Game 1: Josh Sowers threw a three-hit shutout in the opening game,
as Yale won 2-0. Ankney went 2-for-4 to lead the Bulldogs at the plate.
Every Yale batter reached base at least once.
The Bulldogs used a two-out rally to grab
the lead in the bottom of the fourth. After the first two batters were
retired, Doyle & Rasmussen drew walks, & Chris Esper
singled to center to score Doyle for a 1-0 lead. After Zac Bradley
walked to load the bases, Ankney's line drive went right to the third
baseman, who dove to catch it without having time to take a step.
Penn threatened when it was down to its
last out in the seventh. Abate singled to rightfield & moved to second
on a passed ball. When an error allowed the next batter to reach, Abate
tried to score from second & was thrown out at the plate by second
baseman Bradley. Rasmussen applied the tag to end the game.
Game 2: The Bulldogs entered the
seventh inning trailing 6-4, but Sawyer singled & John
Janco walked to chase Penn starter Brian Cirri. With one out, Zabar
singled to plate Sawyer, & Orrico singled home Stone, who had reached
on a fielder's choice. An errant throw by the leftfielder allowed Orrico
& Doyle, who pinchran for Zabar, to move up a base. Rasmussen
took advantage with his flyout to center.
Brett Rosenthal retired all six batters he
faced, three by strikeout, for his third save of the season and second of
the weekend.

YALE STRIKEOUTS, CLUTCH HITS KEY SWEEP
OF LIONS
April 9, 2005 -- New Haven, Conn. -- Behind
two solid pitching efforts, including an 11-strikeout performance by Mike
Mongiardini, & plenty of clutch hitting, the Yale baseball team swept
Columbia 4-2 & 8-2 Saturday afternoon at Yale Field.
Mongiardini recorded eight of his first
nine outs by strikeout in the second game after Alec Smith pitched six
strong innings in Game 1, allowing just one earned run. The Eli pitchers
combined for 17 strikeouts & just four walks on the day. The Bulldogs
(12-10, 3-3 Ivy) drove in half of their runs in each game with two-out
hits.
Game 2: The Lions still held a 1-0
lead on a second-inning homer by Val Miklausich until Yale notched three
runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth.
Sawyer ripped an opposite-field double with
one out & came in on a Josh Zabar double off the wall in left center.
Stone, the next batter, singled through the left side to plate Zabar.
Stone moved to second on an Orrico groundout & scored on a single up
the middle by Jake Doyle (Brandywine HS).
Yale put the game out of reach with four
sixth-inning scores. After Stone & Orrico walked, Doyle drove
in Stone with a single, & Orrico scored on a Bradley sacrifice fly.
Then, with two outs, Ankney hit a hard hopper that got between the first
baseman & the line for a triple & two more two-out runs.
Zabar, Doyle & Sawyer each had a
pair of hits for the Bulldogs, & Stone was 1-for-2 with two walks
& two runs.

YALE: BIG WIN & ANOTHER
CLOSE LOSS IN CORNELL DH
Bulldogs Rack Up 12 hits, 11 Runs in Game 1
April 5, 2005 -- ITHACA, N.Y.
-- The Yale baseball team picked up its first Ivy League win in impressive
fashion Tuesday at Hoy Field, defeating Cornell 11-2 in the first game of
a doubleheader, before the Big Red came back to take the second game 4-3
in 10 innings.
Game 1: The Bulldogs
(10-10, 1-3 Ivy League) pounded out 12 hits in the seven-inning opener,
& Josh Sowers allowed six hits while striking out three &
improving to 3-0 with a complete game.
Yale did not record a hit off
starter Tad Bardenwerper in the first three innings before putting up
three runs on three straight extra-base knocks in the fourth. A Matt
Miller homer cut the Yale lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the inning, but the
Bulldogs tallied three more runs in the top of the fifth to put the game
out of reach. The first two runs came on singles by CJ Orrico & Zac
Bradley to score Matt Stone & Jake Doyle, respectively. Bradley
later came around on an error to finish the scoring.

HEARTBREAKING FASHION
Princeton Sweeps Yale; Wins Both Games In Last At Bat
April 4, 2005 -- West Haven,
Conn. - The weather finally cooperated to allow Yale to open Ivy League
play. The Bulldogs, though, probably wish it had rained for one more day.
Will Venable homered with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift
Princeton to a 5-4 victory in the first game of a doubleheader, & Sal
Iacono's RBI single through a drawn-in infield with the bases loaded in
the ninth inning of the second game lifted the Tigers to a 9-8 win.
Game 1: Yale took a 2-0
lead in the second when Jake Doyle scored on a wild pitch, &
Chris Esper drove home Eric Rasmussen with a sacrifice fly.
Princeton, though, answered
with two unearned runs in the third. Zach Wendos reached on an error &
scored on a double to left center. Venable followed with an RBI single to
right.
WESLEY SWEPT BY COUGARS
April 9, 2005 -- Dallas, PA -- Wesley
College (8-9, 4-7) lost both games to conference opponent College
Misericordia (7-8-1, 5-1) on Saturday afternoon, by final scores of 10-8
& 8-7 in baseball action. Bryan Sorenson (West River, MD) led Wesley
in game 1, going 2-for-4 with 2 homeruns & 4 RBI's. Dan Bunnion
(Blackwood, NJ) was also 2-for-4 & added a homerun. In game 2, Kieran
Kearns (Point Pleasant, NJ) & Matt Adams (Woodbridge HS) were
both 2-for-3. Adams had a grand slam and 4 RBI's, while Steve
Robusto (William Penn HS) added a double.
WESLEY LOSES HEARTBREAKER

by a final score of 6-5 on Wednesday afternoon in baseball action. Wesley
was up 5-3 heading into the top of the 9th, but gave up 3 runs for the
final tally.
Cody Pidgeon (Barnegat, NJ) led Wesley
going 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored & an RBI. Jordan Smith (Lake
Forest HS) was also 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Steve Robusto

WESLEY WOLVERINES SPLIT TWIN-BILL WITH

April 5, 2005 -- Scranton, PA -- Wesley
College (8-6, 4-4) split their twin-bill with Marywood University (7-9,
2-3) on Monday afternoon in baseball action. Wesley defeated the Pacers in
game 1 by a final score of 6-4. Steve Robusto (William Penn) &
Mike Otchy (Manasquan, NJ) both were 2-for-3, with 1 RBI apiece. Kevin
Gavan (Lakewood, NJ) picked up the win on the mound, while Matt McKee
(Caesar Rodney HS) earned the save. Chris Maczynski (A.I. DuPont)
was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's in the win.
Game 2: Wesley jumped out to a 9-0
lead only to fall by a final score of 12-11. Mike Lemon (St. Mark's
HS) was 3-for-3 with a homerun & 3 RBI's & Cody Pidgeon (Barnegat,
NJ) was 3-for-4 with a homerun & 3 RBI's.
DICKINSON DEVILS FALL AT URSINUS 4-1, 6-2
April 10, 2005 --
Collegeville, PA -- The Dickinson College baseball team suffered a pair of
Centennial Conference losses at Ursinus on Sunday afternoon. The Bears won
the opener 4-1 & took the nightcap 6-2. Ursinus pushed across three
runs in the third inning to erase a one-run Devil lead & tacked on
another in the seventh of game one. In game two the Bears again had a big
third inning, scoring three runs after the Devils went in front 1-0 in the
first. They added a run in the fourth & two in seventh to improve to
7-7 overall & 6-2 in the CC.
Freshman Ryan Miklusak (Columbia, MD) went 3-for-4 in game two with an RBI
& a run scored. Tre Dwinell (Fairfax Station, VA) had three hits on
the day, including a double in game two. Dustin Cohen (Sharon, MA) & Ryan
Stearrett (St. Elizabeth's HS) each recorded a pair of hits & an
RBI while Robert Gilcrest (Maplewood, NJ) went 2-for-3 in the opener.
Sophomore Matt Eonta (Sewickley, PA) struck out five in a complete game
effort while Jamie King (St. Andrew's) allowed just one earned run
in game two.
'FORDS TAKE TWO FROM DICKINSON DEVILS
April 9, 2005 -- Haverford, PA -- The
Dickinson College baseball team dropped a Centennial Conference
double-header at Haverford on Saturday. Despite three Red Devil homeruns
in the opener, the 'Fords won a 7-4 decision with a three-run sixth
inning. Haverford's bats heated up in the nightcap, leading them to a 17-3
win.
Sophomore Ryan Stearrett (St.
Elizabeth's HS) went 2-for-3 with two homeruns in the opener.
Classmate Luke Volker (Englewood, CO) added a solo homer in the seventh
while Ryan Anderson (New Oxford, PA) went 2-for-3.
The Red Devils slip to 6-9-1 overall &
2-4 in the Conference.
DEVILS RALLY, FALL SHORT AT MESSIAH 7-5
April 6, 2005 -- Grantham, PA --The
Dickinson College baseball team dropped a 7-5 non-conference decision at
Messiah College on Wednesday. The Red Devils jumped out to an early 1-0
lead, scoring in the top of the first inning. Messiah scored once in the
second and third, and tacked on three in the fourth to take a 5-1
advantage.
The Devils evened the score with a
four-hit, four-run sixth inning. Freshman Ryan Miklusak (Columbia, MD)
led-off the inning with a single and scored on an error off the bat of
classmate Nick Perkins (Baltimore, MD). Sophomore Ryan Stearrett
(St. Elizabeth's) drove in Perkins with a ground-rule double over the
fence in centerfield. Stearrett later scored on a base-hit by Aren
Johnson (Hummelstown, PA), who then scored on a triple from Ryan Anderson
(New Oxford, PA).
The Falcons answered in the bottom of the
sixth as Jared Mitterling singled & later scored on a single by Craig
Meese. Messiah added another in the bottom of the eighth & held on to
improve to 12-9-1 on the season.
Stearrett finished the day with a
pair of RBI to lead the Devils while Anderson went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jamie
King (St. Andrew's) threw a solid 3.2 innings, allowing just two
earned runs & striking out four.
SU BASEBALL PROPELS PAST ST. MARY'S, 14-0
April 12, 2005 - Salisbury, MD –
Salisbury University junior first baseman Nick Pegelow (Seaford HS)
& junior right fielder Jason Lively (Gambrills, MD) each smashed home
runs Tuesday to propel the No.2-seed Sea Gulls into the second round of
the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament with a 14-0 blanking
of No.5-seed St. Mary's College.
No.15-ranked Salisbury (22-4-2), which is
unbeaten in its last 12 games, will host No.3-seed York College (18-8-1)
in a second-round game Thursday at Sea Gull Field. York blanked No.4-seed
Catholic, 11-0, on Tuesday. The game will begin at 3:10 p.m.
After scoring one run in each of the first
two frames, the Sea Gulls, who posted a 7-2-1 CAC regular season mark,
exploded for 10 runs on eight hits in the third frame to break the game
open. Pegelow, who finished the contest 1-for-3 with three RBI, hit
his sixth home run of the year, a two-run shot.
Sea Gull senior DH Matt Johnson (St.
Michael's, MD) had a 3-for-4 game at the plate, connecting with his 10th
double while scoring twice & driving three runs. Sophomore center
fielder Andrew Jensen (Millersville, MD) went 3-for-4 with two runs &
a RBI, junior Greg Lemon (St. Mark's) went 2-for-3, scoring three
runs & driving in another.
#15 BASEBALL ROLLS INTO CAC TOURNAMENT,

April 9, 2005 -- Salisbury, MD - Salisbury
University sophomore centerfielder Andrew Jensen had a 3-for-4 outing with
five RBI, including a grand slam home run, as the No.15-ranked Sea Gulls
(21-4-2, 7-2-1 CAC) rolled into the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament
with a convincing 12-2 victory over Catholic (10-17, 4-6 CAC) Saturday at
Sea Gull Field.
Salisbury, which is unbeaten in its last 11
games, will enter the CAC Tournament as the No.2 seed behind Mary
Washington (19-5, 9-0 CAC). The Eagles clinched the No.1 seed with a 9-3
victory over Catholic on Thursday & then knocked off Goucher, 12-3, on
Saturday. Catholic will be the fourth seed in the league tourney, behind
York.
The conference baseball tournament begins
Tuesday, with Salisbury hosting No.5-seed St. Mary's, Mary Washington
hosting No.6 seed Gallaudet & York hosting Catholic. The second round
will be played Thursday at the sites of the higher-seeded teams, with the
final two rounds taking place Saturday & Sunday (April 16-17) at Mary
Washington.
Jensen's towering homer off the
scoreboard in left field put the game out of reach for Salisbury in the
sixth frame as it gave the Sea Gulls a 10-1 advantage. Jensen also scored
three times. SU junior second baseman Greg Lemon (St. Mark's HS)
finished 3-for-4 with a double & a triple, while scoring three runs
& driving in two more to help the cause.
Salisbury junior Nick Dunk (6-1,
Seaford HS) picked up the win on the hill. In seven innings he allowed two
runs on five hits while striking out three & walking one. He went
through a stretch during the game when he sat down 11 straight batters.
#15 SALISBURY BASEBALL ROCKS CATHOLIC
CARDINALS, 20-3
April 6, 2005 -- Washington, DC - The
No.15-ranked Salisbury University baseball team stayed mathematically
alive for the No.1 seed in the quickly arriving Capital Athletic
Conference Tournament Wednesday by connecting for five home runs and 16
hits in a 20-3 league win over Catholic University at Robert Talbot Field.
The victory lifts Salisbury (20-4-2) to its
11th straight 20-win campaign, but more importantly, kept the Sea Gulls
two games behind CAC front-runner Mary Washington (17-5, 7-0) in the race
for the top seed for the league tournament. Salisbury has just one
conference game left, at home Saturday (1 p.m.) against Catholic, while
Mary Washington, a 20-6 winner over Gallaudet Wednesday, has three league
games remaining.
SU junior first baseman Nick Pegelow
(3-for-5, Seaford HS) smashed a pair of home runs, scored twice &
tallied eight RBI in the victory. Sophomore Jessie Trout (2-for-4) also
had a pair of homers, while driving in four runs & scoring twice
himself. Senior B.J. Kittle (1-for-4) added a home run, senior DH Matt
Johnson went 3-for-5 with four RBI & two runs, junior Greg Lemon
(St. Mark's HS) went 3-for-4 with three runs & senior Mike Williams
had a 2-for-6 outing, scoring three times.
Senior Fadul Bambino (Astoria, NY) also had two hits & two RBI,
including a double that knocked home a run in the third.
Freshman righthander Eric Hines (Milltown,
NJ) earned the victory in three innings of work, allowing seven hits and
three runs while walking two and striking out one.
CALDWELL: NYACK HANGS ON TO DEFEAT
COUGARS, 11-9
April 6, 2005 -- Nyack, NY - The Caldwell
College baseball team's comeback fell just short as the Cougars lost to
Nyack College, 11-9 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game
Wednesday night at Nyack High School. The Cougars dropped to 8-12 overall
& 3-3 in the CACC, while the Warriors improved to 6-7, 4-2 CACC.
The Cougars jumped out to the early lead
with five runs in the top of the second inning. Juniors Landon Viessy
(Bayside, NY) & Nick Mauro (Nutley, NJ) started the inning with
back-to-back singles, then scored on a single by freshman Americo
Eaderesto (Manorville, NY). Eaderesto made it 3-0 when he advanced to
third on a double by soph Andy Chunn (Cape Henlopen HS), then
scored on an error. With senior Mike Kolesar (New City, NY) on second
& Chunn on third, senior Joe Catenacci (Helmetta, NJ) knocked
in both runners with a single.
But the lead wouldn't last long, as Nyack
scored six runs on five hits in the bottom of the second to take a 6-5
advantage. The Cougars staged a comeback in the top of the seventh, but
with bases loaded & one out, Nayck's Ron Garvey recorded a strikeout
& a fly ball to centerfield to end the threat.
ADELPHI EDGES CALDWELL COUGARS, 8-7 IN
BASEBALL
April 5, 2005 -- Garden City, NY - For the
second time in a week, the Caldwell College baseball team dropped a
one-run game to Adelphi University, 8-7 Tuesday afternoon in a
non-conference game. The Cougars, who lost to the Panthers 3-2 last
Tuesday, fell to 8-11 on the season, while Adelphi improved to 8-11.
Trailing the Cougars staged a comeback in
the bottom of the ninth. Sophomore Andy Chunn (Cape Henlopen) &
senior Hasani Whitfield (Briarwood, NY) walked, then advanced to second
& third on a groundout. After the next batter struck out, an error
allowed Chunn to score, with Whitfield advancing to third.
Whitfield came home on a balk to make the score 8-7 with a runner on
second. But the next Cougar batter flied out to left field, ending the
comeback & the game.
URSINUS USES EXTRA INNING TO EDGE WIDENER
8-7 IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION
April 13, 2005 -- Chester, PA -- Eric
Wickersham (St. Mark's) drove in the game-winning run to lead
Ursinus over Widener 8-7 in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday.
Wickersham knocked in
freshman/brother Brad Wickersham (St. Mark's) with a double in
the 10th for the extra-inning victory.
The Bears started the scoring in the third
frame, beginning with a run by Rory Graver (Plymouth Mtg., PA) on a single
to left field by E. Wickersham. Eric Sulock (Haddonfield, NJ), who
got on base with a single, reached home on an RBI single to second base by
Ted Piotrowicz (Plymouth Mtg., PA).
The Pioneers grabbed the lead, after
scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth & adding one in the
fifth for a 4-3 edge. Ursinus & Widener took turns using three-run
seven innings to keep it a one-run game.
After a scoreless ninth, Wickersham
hit a single to left field & advanced to second on a Mike Ziemak
(Gilbertsville, PA) sacrifice in the 10th inning. With two outs, E.
Wickersham doubled to allow B. Wickersham to touch home for the
game winner.

tallied three hits and two RBIs for the Bears.
ST. JOHN'S SWEEPS GEORGETOWN, 8-2
April 10, 2005 -- Bethesda, MD -- St.
John's pitcher Rob Delaney (River Vale, NJ) held Georgetown to three hits
over six innings & junior Greg Thomson (Levittown, NY) drove in four
runs, leading the Red Storm to an 8-1 win over the Hoyas at Shirley Povich
Field on Sunday afternoon.
The win gave St. John's a three-game series
sweep of Georgetown, the second three-game sweep of a BIG EAST opponent
this season, & the first time since 1995 that the Red Storm had done
so in back-to-back series. The Red Storm have won their last 10 games
& improve to 19-9 overall, 7-1 in the BIG EAST. The team has won their
last six conference games, the most since winning seven-straight in 1998.
The Red Storm scored a pair of runs in the
first inning, giving Delaney all the run support he would need. Senior PJ
Antoniato (Levittown, NY) hit a one-out single, moved to third on a
Thomson double & scored on a throwing error. Thomson, who moved to
third on the throwing error, scored when senior Blake Hershelman
(Sussex Central HS) flew out to center.
Redshirt sophomore Justin Muir (Plainsboro,
NJ) & sophomore Anthony Sullivan (Arlington, MA) threw scoreless
innings in the seventh & eighth, respectively, & junior Craig
Hansen (Glen Cove, NY) gave up a run in the ninth, but closed out the
sweep.
VARVARA WINS FOURTH-STRAIGHT GAME,
ST. JOHN'S BEATS GEORGETOWN, 13-2
April 9, 2005 -- Bethesda, MD -- In the
opener, Georgetown took a 2-0 lead when Andrew Cleary hit a two-run home
run off of Varvaro - only the seventh extra-base hit all season against
him - but the Red Storm tied the game in the third & scored 11 runs
over the final
four innings, cruising to the victory.
Varvaro settled down, striking out the side
in the third & two in the fourth, while picking off Cleary, who had
walked, to end the inning. That's when the Red Storm bats caught up to
Quinn, who gave up five runs on 10 hits in 3.2 innings. With the game tied
at 2-all in the fourth, Joachim broke it with a blast to left, his third
home run of the season. A double from Vogl & a single from Devenney
put runners on the corners for DeLuca, who drove in a run with a single.
Martin followed with a double to center as the lead grew to 5-2.
In the fifth, senior Blake Hershelman
(Sussex Central HS) doubled & senior Joe Burke (Brooklyn, NY)
increased the lead to 8-2. The scoring in the inning closed out when
Martin doubled home Devenney, who was hit by a pitch & stole second.
The Red Storm added four more runs in the seventh - highlighted by a
three-run home run from junior Eddie Schultz (Flemington, NJ).
Varvaro went 6.0 innings, giving up two
runs on five hits with two walks & 10 strikeouts as he won his fourth
straight decision.

April 6, 2005 -- Queens, NY -- Juniors
Eddie Schultz (Flemington, NJ) drove in five runs & Greg Thomson
(Levittown, NY) hit a two-run home run in the sixth to lead a 21-hit
attack as St. John's beat Fairleigh Dickinson, 29-6, at the FDU Baseball
Field Wednesday afternoon. The 29 runs set a school record for runs in a
game, & mark the second time this season the team has scored at least
20 runs.
The Red Storm jumped on top of FDU freshman
starter Steven Aiello, scoring four runs in the first two innings. In the
first, Schultz blasted a shot over the fence in left for a three-run home
run - his first of the season - scoring senior P.J. Antoniato (Levittown,
NY) & senior Blake Hershelman (Sussex Central). Junior Will
Vogl (Pacifica, CA) followed with a single down the left field line &
after a pair of walks, scored when soph Sam DeLuca (Pelham, NY) was hit by
a pitch.
Schultz did it again in the second, this
time hitting a shot to the wall in left for a double, scoring Thomson, who
singled, & Hershelman, who was hit by a pitch. Redshirt soph
Chris Joachim (Massapequa, NY) reached on an error, scoring Schultz.
Joachim stole second & scored on a single from junior Jarod Hickle
(LaGrange, TX), making it 8-0.
The Knights, however, cut back into the
lead, scoring five runs in the bottom of the third off of sophomore
starter Anthony Smith (Katonah, NY), who went 2.1 innings, giving up five
runs (three earned) on five hits with three walks & one strikeout.
However, it was all St. John's from that point as they continued to score
a total of 29 runs for the game.
Freshman pitcher Dan Stanley picked up his
first collegiate win, throwing 3.2 innings, giving up no runs on one hit
with one walk & five strikeouts.

Fighting Hawks split double-header with Savannah State winning 13-9,
falling 3-1
April 7, 2005 -- Princess Anne, MD - The
University of Maryland Eastern Shore (6-26, 1-11) split a double-header
with Savannah State University (15-9) on Thursday afternoon winning the
first game 13-9 behind Craig Munch's two homeruns & seven RBI's. The
Fighting Hawks dropped game two to the Tigers, who are the #1 ranked team
in the Black College Baseball poll.
Game 1: UMES fell behind 6-2 in the
top of the third, but UMES answered with three in the bottom of the inning
as the Fighting Hawks collected four hits. Munch doubled home two runs
& then Greg Cathell (Delmar HS) singled him home.
The Tigers & the Fighting Hawks
exchanged solo-homeruns in the fourth & fifth innings. Gerald Smith
put SSU up 7-5 with his blast, but Brandon McCabe (Sussex Central
HS) answered with his sixth homerun of the season.
Trailing 7-6 in the seventh, SSU added
another run as Gerald Smith once again went deep to right for his seventh
of the year. The maroon & gray responded, as McCabe doubled
home Mayta & then Munch sent one over the right field wall giving the
Fighting Hawks a 9-8 lead.
In the top of the eighth, Savannah State
tied the game at 9-9, but left three runners stranded as Brad Powell
relieved Sean Davis & did not allow the Tigers to reclaim the lead.
Powell's effort paid off as Joel Maher doubled in Quick for the 10-9 lead
& then Munch again took the first pitch over the opposite field fence
for a three run homerun.
Dusty Webster secured Powell's first
collegiate win by retiring the side in the ninth as the Hawks took game
one of the double-header. Munch went 3-4 with two homeruns, three runs
scored & a career-high seven RBI's. McCabe equaled the effort
going 4-4 with a homerun & a double. He scored four times & drove
in two.
Game 2: The Hawks earned an early
1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Maher led off the game with a
double & eventually scored on a ground out by McCabe. The
Tigers answered with three runs in the top of the second highlighted by
RBI-singles from George Pope & Calvin Hart.
With the score 3-1, both teams pitching
took control as Jason Janeski cruised through the next four innings
without giving up a run. It was the seventh straight quality start for
Janeski, but he falls to 0-7 on the season.
Game 1: The Fighting Hawks blew a 5-4 lead in the top of the last
inning, only to win with a RBI-single in the eighth inning.
UMES fell behind 4-0 but cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth
inning as Rob Benak drove in Brandon McCabe (Sussex Central) &
Craig Munch on a single to left. UMES grabbed the lead in fifth inning as
Craig Munch hit a two-run triple to right field & then scored on a RBI
pinch-hit double by Greg Cathell (Delmar HS).
In the eighth, Munch led the inning off
with his second triple. Mount St. Mary's then intentionally walked Justin
Hoban (Indian River HS) & Angel Bermudez to load the bases,
setting up a force at home. However, Bernie Stratchko took the first pitch
over the centerfielders head bringing home the winning run. The win was
the Fighting Hawks fourth win in their last at-bat & the second
straight win at home.
ETOWN DEFEATS MORAVIAN 9-3 TO COMPLETE
CONFERENCE SERIES SWEEP
April 10, 2005 -- Elizabethtown, Pa. ---
Elizabethtown improved to 8-8 overall & 8-4 in the Commonwealth
Conference by defeating Moravian College (4-17, 3-12) 9-3 at home Sunday
in the make-up of a previously postponed game.
Dean Whetham (Brandywine HS) hit 2-for-5 with one run & two
RBIs for Etown, & Ryan White (Lebanon, PA) went 1-for-4 with a
three-RBI triple. Three different players had three hits each.
Etown starting pitcher Drew Kelley (York, PA) went six innings &
allowed three hits, two walks & two runs while striking out three en
route to earning the win. Scott Beard (Willow Grove, PA) pitched the final
three innings for Etown, striking out four while allowing three hits &
one run.
WIDENER SWEEPS ELIZABETHTOWN BASEBALL IN
CONFERENCE DOUBLEHEADER
April 5, 2005 -- Chester, Pa. ---
Elizabethtown lost both ends of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader on
the road at Widener University Tuesday, falling 8-6 in the first game
& 16-6 in the second game. Etown dropped to 5-7 overall and 5-4 in the
conference with the losses, while Widener improved to 15-5 overall and 7-3
in the conference with the wins.
In the first game, Etown held a 6-3 lead
halfway through the sixth inning, but Widener rallied to score five runs
in the bottom of the sixth. In the second game, Widener scored eight runs
in the bottom of the first, seven more in the bottom of the fourth, &
one more run in the bottom of the sixth.
In the first game, Eric Guise (Bendersville,
PA) hit 2-for-4 with one run & two RBIs, & Seth Guida (Reading,
PA) went 2-for-4 with two runs & a double. Dean Whetham
(Brandywine HS) hit 1-for-3 with a double & two RBIs.
In the second game, Guida went 2-for-4 with
one run, one double & two RBIs. Rich Esposito (Annville, PA) hit
2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs for Etown.
RICHMOND SPIDERS BASEBALL FALLS AT GEORGE
MASON, 12-6
Richmond scores six in the first, but fails to hold on in
seventh-straight loss.
April 12, 2005 -- Fairfax, Va -- The Richmond baseball squad pushed six
runs across in the first inning at Spuhler Field in Fairfax, Va., but
George Mason rallied with 12 unanswered for a 12-6 win Tuesday afternoon.
The loss, Richmond's seventh-consecutive, drops the team to 14-18 overall,
while the Patriots improve to 18-10.
The Spiders began the six-run inning, their largest single-inning output
of the season, when junior Ben Zeskind walked to lead off the inning. The
Patriots answered with three in their half of the first then made a
pitching change before the end of the inning. They moved through the next
four innings by not allowing a hit & retiring 12 of 14 Spider batters.
The Patriots scored one more in the second then took the lead in the third
by scoring five runs on four hits. The Spiders did not have an answer,
leaving the bases loaded in the sixth & seventh & stranding a
runner at third in the eighth
The Patriots tacked on two in the sixth with back-to-back homers off
reliever junior Wyatt Stewart, marking the first time the Spiders gave up
consecutive dingers since March 24, '04 against Virginia Tech. Freshman David
Solan (Newark HS) came on in the seventh & surrendered the final
run of the game to make it 12-6.
MUHLENBERG BASEBALL TOPPLES FIRST-PLACE
BEARS
April 12, 2005 -- Sophomore Tom McDonald
pitched seven strong innings to earn his first career win & was backed
by an offense that pounded out eight extra-base hits in the Muhlenberg
baseball team's 16-6 win against Ursinus.
Muhlenberg scored its runs in bunches, with
four innings of three or more runs. In the second, back-to-back triples by
senior Matthew Long & freshman Joe Carlo, followed by back-to-back
doubles by senior C.J. Kessler & sophomore Ryan Sassaman (St.
Elizabeth's HS), keyed a four-run uprising.
Long, who entered the game in a 1-for-22
slump, finished with three of the extra-base hits & drove in a
career-high five runs. He hit two-run doubles in both the third &
seventh innings to move into seventh place on the Mules' all-time list
with 38 career extra-base hits.
Through 18 games, Muhlenberg has 62
extra-base hits (41 doubles, 14 triples, seven home runs). Last year, in
31 games, the Mules had 61 extra-base hits (42 doubles, 13 triples, six
home runs).

Burkhart Breaks Strikeout Record
April 8, 2005 -- Junior Matt
Tobia led off the bottom of the 10th with his second home run of the
season, giving the Muhlenberg baseball team a thrilling 7-6 Centennial
Conference win against Haverford.
Big two-out hits were the key to the
five-run rally in the second. The first two runs scored on an infield
groundout & Hegstrom's suicide squeeze bunt. After the second out,
sophomore Ryan Sassaman (St. Elizabeth's HS) singled to left to
score two more runs, & senior Matthew Long capped the rally with a
triple to the fence in right field.
In the bottom of the 10th, Tobia drove a
1-1 fastball high & deep over the 340 sign in left field for the
walkoff home run. The dramatic ending put a happy finish to a milestone
day for senior Gregg Burkhart, who struck out three to become the Mules'
all-time leader with 186 career strikeouts. Burkhart pitched into the
eighth inning & allowed only four hits to a Haverford team that had
averaged 14 runs in its last four games.
The Mules' 11-4 record ties their best
ever after 15 games.
