Matthews and Garnett Lead Smyrna to Delaware State Title

Caleb Matthews, who is arguably the best high school ballplayer in Delaware, recently led his high school team to their first Boys High School Basketball State Championship. The 6’3” junior scores 16 points and handed out 7b assists as #2 rated Smyrna defeated unranked Caravel Academy 61-53 to win the 2017 DIAA State Basketball Tournament.

He hit big baskets down the stretch to help the Eagles hold off the Buccaneers. 6’5” sophomore Jaymeir Garnett scored 28 points on 14-20 shooting from the floor and grabbed 11 rebounds to help Smyrna secure the victory.

7’2” junior Zubi Nwankwo grabbed 15 rebounds to help the victors. Okoye Parker, who is a 6’3” junior for Caravel, hit for 26 points for the Buccaneers. The Smyrna Eagles return their top 3 ballplayers in 2018.
