We-R1 Continues Winning Ways at UAA II

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Delaware based We-R1 defeated Illinois Wolves 66-49 at UAA IIin a true team effort, bringing their record to an impressive 7-1 the past two weekends.

Six different We-R1 players scored between eight and 11 points in the game and no one attempted more than nine field goals.

“That’s what we try to do every game,” coach James Johns said. “Try to move the ball. We feel like we have enough talent that nobody has to score 20 a game. If we move the ball and play basketball the right way, we’ll all be successful.”

A 7-0 spurt helped We-R1 take a 23-11 lead into the second quarter. Illinois Wolves would play them to a standstill in the second quarter and We-R1 had a 34-22 advantage at halftime.

WeR1 were able to get up nine more shots than Illinois Wolves in the first half thanks to a 16-8 rebounding margin. They also made six of the 10 three-pointers they shot, pulling ahead by as many as 15 points.

We-R1 was unable to build on their lead in the third quarter but didn’t relinquish it either and were ahead 47-34 at its end. Eight consecutive points in the fourth quarter finally allowed WeR1 to open up the lead more.

Eric Ayala was responsible for six of We-R1’s 11 second half field goals, making three himself and assisting on three others.
